SF6 gas in offshore areas

Since space in offshore areas is extremely valuable and rare, SF6 gas is inevitably used in many applications. Since SF6 gas-filled switchgear is more compact than the alternatives, it is very popular on drilling rigs and offshore substations in offshore wind farms. SF6 gas-insulated cables and gas-insulated lines are also installed offshore and require regular maintenance.

Offshore wind farms and drilling platforms are often classified as special economic zones or, in other forms, do not belong to the EU territory for customs purposes. Therefore, SF6 gas used in the offshore sector must be exported or imported in accordance with the provisions of the REACH Regulation. As we have direct access to a REACH registration for SF6 gas through our partner, we can easily import used gas for treatment purposes. We also supply new SF6 gas to offshore platforms or ships through our direct suppliers of new SF6 gas. We are happy to organize the transport and return of used bottles and tanks from the offshore sector for which the inspection period has expired in accordance with the TPED Regulation.

We have employees who have been trained by recognized training institutions in accordance with GWO guidelines for working in offshore wind farms and OPITO standards for working on offshore oil and gas rigs, and who have undergone health checks in accordance with OLF guidelines. If your offshore operation requires the NSOC-D standard, we also keep training courses for this standard up to date for selected employees so that we can complete SF6 work in the offshore sector for you on short notice.
